MHAHA was incorporated September 19, 1962, in Wabasso, MN, under the name Minnesota Part Arabian Horse Association, but the name was changed to Minnesota Half Arabian Horse Association in 1966. The founding purpose was to feature Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses, and over the years, the club has devised a variety of programs to do just that!
Our Promotional Program is designed to promote the use of Half-Arabians, Anglo-Arabians, Sport Horses, and purebred Arabians alike. Members regularly attend horse expos, including the very large and popular Minnesota Expo where we help provide information and demonstrations. In addition, MHAHA members participate in other expos, fairs, parades, and festivals--virtually anything we can find that is a promotional avenue.
We emphasize opportunities to join together to enjoy and promote our horses, and members of all ages can frequently be found on trail rides and in benefit rides. The MHAHA Youth Program is also active, running the food booth at many of our events, practice judging at area shows, and just having fun at their meetings and holiday parties. The program is designed particularly to provide educational and showmanship experience along with leadership opportunities.
For those who like trail riding, we hosted a ride in 2000 to benefit St. Jude's Children's Hospital. And for those who like to show, we offer three fun shows, two in the spring and one in the fall. Then, for those who like the rated show experience, we host the class A Great Arabian Get Together show in July with a full complement of classes including our futurity for Half Arabian horses. And finally, for dressage enthusiasts, we put on the August Dog Days Dressage competition.
